Outline

Computer Science is designed for 13–15-year-olds who want to develop coding skills and learn the fundamentals of software development. Students will explore programming languages such as Python and Java, developing problem-solving skills and confidence in coding. They’ll learn the core principles of software development, from writing and debugging code to creating user interfaces. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning engaging and relevant. The course also includes a masterclass on teamwork and collaboration, along with a reflection session to help students track their goals and progress.

Teaching methodology

Learning in a small group (no more than 8 students and often fewer) means that you get quality time with your teacher and ask as many questions as you like! Through interactive learning, our teachers will guide you through new concepts and assign you practice tasks to build your knowledge and skills. You will also have an opportunity for group work, independent research, and homework assignments to be discussed in class. Small classes mean everyone gets to have their say, and students learn from debating with one another, as well as from their tutor.

How do I apply to ǶƵ?

Applying is easy! Follow these steps:

  1. Choose a Course: Select your subject, location, dates, and accommodation. You can add additional courses if you wish.
  2. Provide Student Info: Fill in your name, contact details, and a short personal statement about why you'd be a great fit.
  3. Enter School Info: Provide the name and address of your most recent school.
  4. Review & Submit: Double-check your details and submit your application.

After submission, our admissions team will review your application, and you’ll hear back within 2-3 days. Apply now!

Can I book more than one course?

Yes, you can book more than one course! During the application process, you will have the option to add additional courses either before or after your main course. The total price, including any additional courses, will be displayed before you proceed.

How can I set up a flexible payment plan?

After paying your deposit to secure your place, our admissions team will help you set up a bespoke payment plan. You can choose from options like monthly or bimonthly payments, and we will provide a detailed invoice outlining your instalment schedule. Learn more about payment plans.

Note: There are no additional fees for setting up a payment plan, and your place is secure once the deposit is paid.

What is the structure of the course?

The course is structured over two weeks and focuses on programming, specifically learning the Python programming language through a mix of theory, practical examples, and project-based learning.

Week 1: Introduction to Programming and Python (Example)

  • Introduction to programming and Python.
  • Variables, data types, and arithmetic operations.
  • Loops, lists, and functions.
  • Understanding text editors or IDEs.

Week 2: Projects and Group Work (Example)

  • Applying the basics to solve real-world problems.
  • Group projects (dependent on class sizes).
  • Creating your own Python program and sharing it with the class.

Note: This is an example structure. The actual content may vary depending on the tutor’s expertise and student preferences. Students will have the opportunity to discuss their learning goals with admissions to tailor the course.

What will I learn by the end of the course?

By the end of the course, students may:

  • Understand the basics of programming, including variables, loops, and functions in Python.
  • Gain confidence in writing and debugging code.
  • Develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills by working through real-world examples and projects.
  • Work on group projects and presentations to develop teamwork and collaboration skills.

What is expected from students during the course?

You are expected to:

How does ǶƵ ensure the safeguarding and wellbeing of students aged 13-15?

For students aged 13-15, ǶƵ takes safeguarding seriously. All staff are DBS-checked and trained in safeguarding policies. We offer 24/7 on-site security, with supervision and curfews to maintain a safe environment. Our safeguarding policies are designed to balance growing independence with necessary safety measures, ensuring students feel supported.

What happens if the course I want is full?

Since spaces are limited, once a course is full, we are unable to accept additional students. We recommend applying early to avoid disappointment.

How soon should I apply to secure my place?

We recommend applying as soon as possible. Spaces are in high demand, and many courses fill up well in advance. The earlier you apply, the better your chance of securing your preferred course dates and accommodation type.

How many spaces are available for each course?

Each course has a limited number of spaces available across multiple accommodation options—Plus, Superior, and Premier. With two-week courses running from 29 June to 30 August 2025, we recommend securing your spot early as spaces fill up quickly.

The ǶƵ experience

Get ready to explore the world of technology. On our Computer Science course for ages 13–15, your child will learn the fundamentals of programming, data structures, and algorithms, while exploring the rapidly evolving field of computer science. They’ll discover how technology shapes the world, from software development and app design to artificial intelligence and machine learning. With no fixed curriculum, students are encouraged to share their interests when they apply, and our expert tutors will tailor the course to reflect those passions wherever possible.

With no more than 8 students per class (and often fewer), your child will enjoy personalised support and the chance to engage in interactive learning. Sessions combine tutor-led teaching with hands-on coding tasks, collaborative projects, and independent exploration. Dedicated study sessions are built into the timetable, offering students time to work on assignments, deepen their understanding, and receive guidance from on-course staff.

Outside the classroom, they’ll enjoy a full summer programme — including games, social events, excursions, and a final graduation ceremony and celebratory disco. It’s a summer of creativity, problem-solving, and inspiration.

While they study Computer Science this summer as part of our 13–15s programme, your child will stay at one of the Cambridge colleges where we host our courses. With shared living spaces, on-course staff for support, and a welcoming environment, it’s the perfect place to explore the world of technology in one of the world’s most prestigious academic cities.

Whether they’re writing code or discovering the tech history of Cambridge with new friends, it’s all part of the experience.

Accommodation

For students attending the Cambridge 13-15 course, accommodation is based on the selected tier. In the Classic Tier, students will stay in a single or twin room, with final room assignment confirmed by us at a later date. In the Plus Tier, students can select their preferred single or twin room.

Food and catering

Meals are provided on a full-board basis, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Meals are served at the accommodation or at local restaurants, providing a variety of options for students.

Following his masters, he worked for a municipalities transportation planning department on traffic data and smart city projects for another five years. PhD Candidate Neuroscience, University of Cambridge - Lena is a PhD student in Neuroscience at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Cambridge. Born in Germany, she has studied, volunteered and worked in many countries, including Honduras, India, Burma, Egypt and England. After completing her undergraduate degree focusing on Machine Learning and Neuroscience, Lena now researches depression development during adolescence using a variety of multivariate methods for the analysis of magnetic resonance imaging scans - using computer science techniques for brain research. She is particularly interested in understanding why during adolescence girls are so much more likely to develop depression than boys.
Prince A
DPhil, Computer Science, University of Oxford - Prince is based in the Indoor Positioning and Cyber-physical Systems Group, where his research interests include Distributed Communication and Machine Learning for Resource Constrained Systems and the Internet of Things. He's undertaken several internships including at Cummins Inc., Genentech, and Distributed Power Africa. During these posts he analysed and generated actionable insights from over 500,000 data samples for power management of a telecoms network. He also led a project to establish automated communication amongst user applications and enterprise software.
Stuart F
Stuart specialises in Computer Science, Programming, AI and Robotics. Prior to becoming a teacher, Stuart worked as a programmer and business systems analyst in the banking industry. He's published two research papers and is starting his own business to mark short answer exam questions using the AI that he invented. He has also been involved in research into platforms to use for robotics in secondary education. One day he would love to take a doctorate in natural language processing and AI.
