Outline

Economics and Finance is designed for 16–17-year-olds interested in understanding how economic and financial systems shape the world. Students will explore key issues in both macroeconomics (at the international level) and microeconomics (within domestic economies), gaining a comprehensive understanding of how businesses succeed and fail. The course will cover topics such as measuring economic performance, markets, and competition, providing an immersive learning experience. Students will develop critical thinking skills as they analyse the complex systems that connect us all. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning both engaging and relevant. The course also includes a masterclass on critical thinking and a reflection session to track progress and set new goals.

Teaching methodology

Learning in a small group (no more than 15 students and often fewer) means that you get quality time with your teacher and ask as many questions as you like! Through interactive learning, our teachers will guide you through new concepts and assign you practice tasks to build your knowledge and skills. You will also have an opportunity for group work, independent research, and homework assignments to be discussed in class. Small classes mean everyone gets to have their say, and students learn from debating with one another, as well as from their tutor.

The ǶƵ experience

Get ready to explore the dynamic world of economics and finance. On our Economics and Finance course for ages 16–17, you’ll dive into the core concepts of economic theory, financial markets, investment strategies, and global economics. You’ll develop the skills to analyse financial data, understand market trends, and explore how financial systems drive economies. With no fixed curriculum, you’re encouraged to share your interests when you apply, and our expert tutors will tailor the course content to reflect those passions wherever possible.

Learn the Cambridge way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will guide you through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8), where you’ll engage in financial case studies, economic simulations, and independent research. You’ll complete two pieces of independent work (essays or financial models), which your tutor will evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. These tutorials provide an opportunity for in-depth feedback, critical analysis, and personalised support to deepen your understanding of economics and finance.

Beyond the classroom, enjoy a full summer programme — including social events, excursions to Cambridge’s cultural landmarks, and a final graduation ceremony with a celebratory bop. It’s a summer of intellectual discovery, personal growth, and exciting new experiences.
