Learning
Outline
Mathematics is designed for 13–15-year-olds who enjoy problem-solving, logical thinking, and exploring how numbers shape the world. Students will strengthen their understanding of core concepts such as algebra, geometry, and probability, while applying mathematical reasoning to real-world scenarios. Through puzzles, challenges, and collaborative activities, they’ll build confidence in approaching complex problems with clarity and precision. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors adapt the course to the group’s interests, making learning both engaging and relevant. The course also includes a masterclass focused on skills like teamwork and debating, along with a reflection session to help students track their progress and goals.
Teaching methodology
Learning in a small group (no more than 8 students and often fewer) means that you get quality time with your teacher and ask as many questions as you like! Through interactive learning, our teachers will guide you through new concepts and assign you practice tasks to build your knowledge and skills. You will also have an opportunity for group work, independent research, and homework assignments to be discussed in class. Small classes mean everyone gets to have their say, and students learn from debating with one another, as well as from their tutor.

The course is structured over two weeks and introduces students to formal logic, a fundamental area in mathematics with connections to philosophy and computer science.
Week 1: Logic and the Philosophy of Mathematics (Example)
- Introduction to syntax, semantics, and pragmatics.
- Key concepts: Proof by induction, equivalence, contraposition, reductio ad absurdum, modus ponens, de Morgan's laws.
- Exploring disjunctive and conjunctive normal forms, expressive power, and the classification of connectives.
Week 2: Propositional and Predicate Logic (Example)
- Natural deduction proof system: Verifiability, soundness, and completeness.
- Predicate logic and its limitations.
- Topics like topology, generalisation, and expressive adequacy.
Note: This is an example structure. The actual content may vary depending on the tutor’s expertise and student preferences. Students will have the opportunity to discuss their learning goals with admissions to tailor the course.
By the end of the course, students may:
- Understand foundational concepts in logic, including propositional and predicate logic.
- Gain confidence in solving logic puzzles and applying logical reasoning to mathematical problems.
- Develop critical thinking and analytical skills essential for pursuing advanced studies in mathematics, computer science, and related fields.
- Learn to work independently and collaboratively on challenging problems.
Note: Learning objectives may vary based on student interests, which will be discussed during the admissions process.
Students are encouraged to do pre-course preparation to maximise their learning. Suggested resources include:
Read:
- Introduction to Logic by Patrick Suppes:
- Explore online resources on propositional logic and predicate logic:
Optional Extension:
- Research an interesting logic puzzle or mathematical problem and come prepared to share it with the class.
Note: These are example resources. Specific materials may vary depending on tutor and student preferences. Students will be informed of the required materials in advance to allow enough time to prepare.

The ǶƵ experience
Get ready to think logically, creatively, and strategically. On our Mathematics course for ages 13–15, your child will explore the principles that underpin everything from finance to engineering — tackling topics like algebra, geometry, number theory, and problem-solving. Whether they’re passionate about equations or curious about patterns, students are encouraged to share their interests when they apply, and our expert tutors will shape lessons around those topics wherever possible. There’s no fixed curriculum, meaning every course is tailored to students’ strengths, goals, and curiosity.
With classes of no more than 8 students (and often fewer), they’ll benefit from personal support, lively discussion, and the chance to approach complex ideas in an encouraging and collaborative environment. Tutors guide students through new concepts using interactive methods, group work, and independent tasks. Dedicated study sessions are built into the week, with on-course staff available to help with homework and consolidation.
Outside the classroom, they’ll enjoy a vibrant programme of activities, including social events, city excursions, and a graduation ceremony and disco to round off the experience. It’s a summer designed to challenge, motivate, and inspire.
