Mathematics is designed for 18–24-year-olds who are passionate about building a strong foundation in mathematical theory and techniques. Students will explore a range of topics, from algebraic techniques to advanced concepts like Markov chains and group theory. The course will help students uncover the intuitive motivations behind some of the most elegant mathematical proofs, equipping them with the tools they need to approach and solve complex problems. Students will master fundamental concepts in both pure and applied mathematics, including ordinary differential equations and more, setting them up for future study in this ever-evolving field. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning both engaging and applicable. The course also includes a masterclass on critical thinking, as well as a reflection session to track progress and set new goals.
Teaching methodology
Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.

The course is structured over two weeks, focusing on fundamental and advanced mathematics topics such as calculus, differential equations, and partial differentiation.
Week 1: Introduction to Calculus and Differential Equations (Example)
- Functions, limits, and continuity.
- Differentiation and integration techniques.
- Solving first-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs).
Week 2: Advanced Topics and Applications (Example)
- Second-order ODEs and series solutions.
- Partial differentiation and directional derivatives.
- Systems of ODEs and introductory partial differential equations (PDEs).

By the end of the course, students may:
- Gain a solid understanding of calculus, including continuity, differentiation, and integration.
- Learn to solve different types of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and explore introductory partial differential equations (PDEs).
- Develop problem-solving skills through rigorous examples and exercises.

Note: You are not expected to watch all the videos or complete all the exercises, but it is highly recommended to familiarise yourself with precalculus topics before starting the course.
This course provides an excellent foundation for further studies in mathematics, physics, engineering, or other fields that require a deep understanding of mathematical principles. You will develop critical problem-solving skills and a strong grasp of calculus and differential equations, which are essential for careers in science, technology, engineering, and finance.

You are not required to have advanced knowledge of mathematics but should be familiar with basic concepts like quadratics, trigonometry, and functions. You are expected to:

The course is designed to be challenging but rewarding, helping students explore complex mathematical topics in depth.

At ǶƵ, we understand that students aged 18-24 have different needs in terms of safeguarding. All staff are enhanced DBS-checked and trained in safeguarding policies. We maintain 24/7 on-site security, but with more independence allowed for this age group. Our policies are focused on ensuring safety while encouraging personal responsibility and autonomy.
Since spaces are limited, once a course is full, we are unable to accept additional students. We recommend applying early to avoid disappointment.

For students attending the Oxford 18-24 course, accommodation is based on the selected tier. In the Classic Tier, students will stay in a single or twin room, with final room assignment confirmed by us at a later date. In the Plus Tier, students can select their preferred single or twin room. The Superior Tier guarantees an ensuite room for added comfort. For the Premier Tier, our concierge service will help select the best available accommodation based on the student’s preferences.
Meals are provided on a half-board basis, including breakfast and dinner. Meals are served at the accommodation or at local restaurants, offering a variety of dining options.
